How to register to vote
If you live in Iowa, are a U.S. citizen and will be 18 years old by election day, Tuesday, Nov. 6, you can vote in Iowa. That includes students from other states who live in dormitories or other housing on or around the Iowa State campus.
To register to vote in Ames, download the registration form and mail it to:

You must provide your Iowa driver’s license or Iowa non-operator ID number. If you don’t have a State of Iowa ID, you may provide the last four digits of your Social Security number.
You can also register in person at the Story County Auditor’s office in Nevada. The deadline is 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. The office will be open to accept registration.
If you miss the registration deadline, you can register at your polling place on election day. At the polling place, you must prove both who you are and where you live. You need either a valid Iowa driver’s license with your current address printed on it, or other documentation. The Iowa Secretary of State’s office has a list of acceptable documents.
