Early voting/ absentee voting (it's the same thing)
If you have registered, you don’t have to wait until election day to vote. In Iowa, early voting, also called absentee voting, began on Sept. 27.
If you live in Ames, you can vote early by requesting that an absentee ballot be sent to you by mail. The request form, which must be sent to the Story County Auditor, is available here. The office will then mail an absentee ballot to you. The form must be received by the Story County Auditor by 5 p.m. Nov. 2, the Friday before the election.
You can return your voted absentee ballot by mail. The ballot must be postmarked by the Monday before election day or earlier and received in the in the county auditor’s office no later than noon on the Monday following the election.
